Services for Mrs. Alma Marie Taylor Ward, 87, of Avinger will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Webb Cemetery in Avinger, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mrs. Ward will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Alma was born in Marion County, Texas, September 7, 1928. She was one of 12 children, to the late parents of Alf and Annie Mae Taylor. She professed her love to Christ at an early age by becoming a member of Rocky Springs United Methodist Church. She attended school and graduated from Central. Alma was married to Obie D. Ward in 1947 and to this union 3 children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Obie D. Ward; parents; sisters Lottie and Mary Taylor; brothers, Willie B, Claudie, Lemuel, Albert Taylor and four other siblings that are unknown. Mrs. Ward is survived by Joan Taylor and husband, Thomas of Jefferson, TX, Peggy Smith and husband, James (Jack) of Jefferson, TX, and Elvis Ward and wife, Violet of Longview, TX; two sisters, Althea Jewell McDowell and husband, Felton, and Ross Pearl Montgomery and long time friend Jimmy Mitchell; two sisters-in law, Virgil Ward of Hemet, CA wife of Alvin Ward, and Laura D. Taylor, wife of Claudie of Avinger TX; one brother-in-law, Albert Taylor; five grandchildren, Erika and Shanta Taylor of Austin, TX, Kyle Smith and wife, Maureen of Sioux Falls, SD, Candace Smith of Carrollton, TX, and Chasity Ward of Coppell, TX; one great-grandchild, Blake Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; best friend Mertrue Smith, cousin and friend Willie Cois and Willie Z. Brown, good friend and neighbor Kenneth Neal, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
