Al will be greatly missed. His sense of humor was one of my favorite things in my talks with him while his office was open. Daily smoke breaks so I could get my dose of second hand smoke and talking about the things going on in our lives. Rest in Peace my friend.

Al proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his service, he worked for many years in sales, where his friendly nature and attentive ear made him a beloved colleague and confidant. Known for his charming, flirtatious spirit and his role as a trusted sounding board, Al was someone friends and family could always turn to for support and advice.
In his later years, he became a Licensed Massage Therapist, further reflecting his caring nature. Al enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, scratching off lottery tickets, and savoring a glass of Old Forester Whiskey.

Al is survived by his son, Alvin Gunkel, Jr.; his daughter, Tara Gunkel; his grandchildren, A.J., James, Matthew, and Cynthia; and his great-grandchild, Theo. He is also lovingly remembered by his special cousin, Sandy Lanier, and her husband, J.C., along with their children: Zoe, Zaida, Mikey, Scotty; and Sandy and J.C.’s granddaughter, Clover; and niece, Caryn Gunkel. Al is also survived by his cherished fur babies, that he loved to spoil with treats, Hercules and Bandit.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Al’s caring neighbors, Miguel and Janet Larsen, and to Chambers Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate support during Al’s final days.
