Anita Mendoza Blake, 77 of Hughes Springs, Texas was born on July 25,1944 in San Marcos, Texas to Jessie Antonio Mendoza and Guadalupe Carrizales Mendoza and passed away on Thursday, March 3,2022. Anita attended and enjoyed San Marcos Elementary Schools but had to abruptly leave school at the age of 13 to care for her infant brother Joe Manuel Mendoza. As her mother Guadalupe passed away suddenly during childbirth. Anita was taught to care for him by her aunts and cared for him and her brothers while working in the cotton fields with her family in Indiana before meeting her first husband Jose Jurado Vega in 1960. They were married on October 28, 1962 and moved to Palestine, Texas had two children David Vega and Amy Sue Vega McCoy. Anita and Joe Jurado divorced after 7.5 years of marriage and Anita moved herself and her two young children to Mt Pleasant and began working at Golden Fest (Pilgrims Pride). In 1968, she met Jerry Andre Blake and they were united in marriage on March 14, 1970 in Mt Pleasant, TX. Two and a half years later Anita had a second daughter Patricia Blake Mathis. In 1975, the Blakes moved to Daingerfield where they raised the three children and met some amazing friends and neighbors. In 2009, they moved to Hughes Springs where they presently reside.
Anita lived a fulfilling life as a wife, mother, nana, mimi, sister, aunt and friend. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, she was an avid gardener, her favorite pastime was spending time with family and working in her beautiful rose garden and flower beds.
Anita was preceded in death by her first husband Joe Jurado Vega, her parents Jessie Antonio Mendoza and Guadalupe Carrizales Mendoza, her brothers Antonio Mendoza, Jessie Mendoza and Celedonio Mendoza.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Blake of 51 years. Brother Joe Manuel Mendoza and wife Rose of Kyle, Son David Vega of New Braunfels, Daughters Amy Sue Vega McCoy and husband Michael McCoy of Daingerfield, Patricia Blake Mathis and husband Alan Mathis of Hughes Springs. Special Grandchildren- Mariah Vega, Ashley Vega Lomas, Jacob Vega, David McCoy, Michael Joseph McCoy, Colby Mathis and Kaelyn Mathis. Great Grandchildren-Kayleigh McCoy, Ali McCoy, Elizabeth McCoy, Gunner McCoy, Leonardo Vega, Braulio Lomas Jr, River Lomas and Elijah Lomas. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial to follow at Harris Chapel under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
