Annie McDaniel Duke was born December 8, 1934 in Hughes Springs, Texas to Tandy and Laura McDaniel. She passed away, peacefully, Tuesday evening, January 23, 2024 at her home in Lone Star, Texas. Annie was a hard but generous woman. She was the first to bring a dish to a funeral or a meal to a new mother. She was a loving wife and mother, a hardworking business woman and a talented seamstress. Annie had a strong faith and she was a founding member of First Baptist Church in Lone Star. There were times that her husband was injured and could not work, but Annie stepped in and took up the slack. She owned and operated Ann’s Donut Shop in Daingerfield for a number of years. It was a running joke that the Chief of Police, who just happened to be her husband, was often parked in front of the donut shop.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernice E. Duke; son, David “Eddie” Duke; and siblings, Joel, David, Norbrate, and Claudine.

Annie will forever be loved and missed by her sons, James M. Duke and wife Charlette of Lone Star and Steven Ray Duke of Sulphur Springs; daughter-in-law, Paula Duke of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Candle 8I remember mostly when Mrs Duke had her grocery store on Industrial 250, when we first moved to Lone Star I always stopped to get the boys popcycles or some candy and other staples we needed, She loved kids and my boys loved her, she did not attend the same church we did but she was very much a christian lady, She always had an open heart for everyone,

  2. Candle 8God bless you Ann, I only knew you for a short time but your bright smile always greeted me and brought joy to my heart. May your light fill heaven with a joyous warmth!

  3. Candle 8Aunt Ann was the sweetest person, every time I ran into her, it was always a toss up if she would remember my name or just call me Betty Lou’s youngest girl. I always loved our talks when we ran into each other out and about. Love you and will always miss you. Prayers to the rest of the family

  4. Candle 2Ann was a strong woman and a hard worker. I was in her employ in the early 90’s. She was first there (very early) and last to leave. She will be missed by all who know her.

  5. Our sincere condolences go out to the Duke family.Vernice and Ann were very good fine people and Mrs.Duke always had the best dishes in our church luncheons. She loved her family and church family.

  6. Steven and the rest of Duke family, we were so sorry to read of Ann’s passing. I have thought of her often with fondness. May God give you comfort in this time of sorrow.
Linda & Kenneth Jackson and family.
