Bartus Henry Johnson was born June 13, 1926 in Morris County, Texas to Joe and Laura Johnson. He was married to Aleeda Jean Hatcher on May 24, 1947 in the home of Bro. J.W. Reeder by Bro. Reeder, of Hughes Springs, Texas. Bartus is survived his loving wife of 65 years; one son, Michael Johnson, of Lampasas, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Gary Kirby, of Canton, Texas, and Gail and Dennis Clay, of Ovilla, Texas; five granddaughters and one grandson: Keri, Mindy, Kacie, and Molly Kirby and Courtney and Justin Clay; one grand-friend, Amber Robertson, of Daingerfield; two great grandsons, Cooper and Luke Wright; three sisters, Sarah Wilson, Laura Jean Knight, and Sue Johnson Hagood; one brother, Bobby Joe Johnson. Preceding him in death are his parents; and one sister, Lavelle Bell. He was a member of South Union Baptist Church. He graduated from Daingerfield High School and vocational schools in Galveston, Texas and Daingerfield. He was a proud veteran of World War II; served in the Philippines, and occupation in Japan. He received a number of medals. He later worked for Johnston Pump Co., in Roswell, NM, construction work in Texas City, Texas, Red River Army Depot, in Texarkana, Texas, Lone Star Ammo Plant, in Texarkana, Texas, and retired after 35 years with Lone Star Steel Company, in Lone Star, Texas. Services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at the funeral home. Special thanks to Sue and Dan Hagood who tirelessly helped take care of Papa.

  3. Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I just read this today, 7/24/13. I know it will make Mother and Daddy so sad to hear he is gone. I hope this only brings back good memories after all this time. Daddy talks about your Dad a lot, they were good friends. Love to you and your family.
