LINDEN TX Bennie Barker, 85, of Plano, formerly of Linden, passed away in Plano on Saturday, March 9, 2013. She was born May 14, 1927 in Linden, Texas to Benjamin and Emil Swinney Yancy. She was employed by the City of Linden as secretary of the Water and Police Departments and Allen Bros. Department Store. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Linden. Preceding her in death was her husband, Fred W. Barker, Jr.; her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three sons, Gary Barker and wife, Jan of Ore City, Terry Barker of Hughes Springs, and Fred Barker and wife, Janet of Linden; a daughter, Kristina Barker and fiance Ty Mahan of Plano; three sisters, Shirley Lee of Rockwall, and Theda Willeford of Mesquite Joyce Jeter of Magnolia, Texas; four grandsons, Daniel Barker, Douglass Barker, Cary Barker of Texarkana, and Bryan Power of Linden; five great grandchildren, Hayden, Evan, Carter, and Chloe Barker, and Samantha Townsend; and a very special grand dog, Juno Mahan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends. Funeral services will be at 3:00pm, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Linden with Bro. Don Phelps officiating. Interment will follow in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Plano for the care they gave Mrs. Barker. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Linden or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
