Betty Louise Singleton went to be with Our Lord and Savior on April 21, 2022, in Texarkana, Texas, surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness and living a long full life.
Ms. Singleton, as she was called by her students, was born on October 12, 1937, in Soper, Oklahoma to Morris E and Beulah McGee Singleton. She was a graduate of Soper High School and spent a few years after graduation traveling and working around Oklahoma and Texas. After a short period of travels, she decided that education was her calling. She worked to get a Bachelors Degree as well as a Masters Degree in Education. She always felt that education and self improvement were extremely important. She even took the time to quiz family members during the holidays to ensure that not a day went by without always challenging the mind. She spent a couple of years teaching in Amarillo, Texas, and then spent the rest of her long career teaching in Richardson, Texas where she retired in the mid 1990’s. After retirement she moved to Linden, Texas and was very involved in her beloved Church, Retired Teachers Association, time with her close friends, local game days which she always looked forward to, and relaxing at home mastering Sudoku puzzles or reading a good book.
She always loved reading the Bible and was always known to leave things in The Lord’s hands. Many times she would tell others not to worry that The Lord had a purpose for everything and everyone. Her faith was very important to her and she is with our Heavenly Father.
She was preceded in death by her parents Morris and Beulah Singleton of Soper, Oklahoma, Her older brother Bill Lester of Abilene, Texas, older sister Fay Anderson of Bonham, Texas, and younger brother James Singleton of Arlington, Texas.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Leanne Singleton of Arlington, Texas, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and loving friends that were like family to her.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Texas Retired Teachers Association Foundation towards any fund that touches your heart.
We are so grateful for Betty's life. She served my aunt, Mary Daughety, as a loyal friend, companion and caregiver. What a give she was! Our condolences to you all.
