Services for Bettye Jean Hurndon Dowell, 78, will be 12:00 noon Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Wallick Chapel Christian Church in Daingerfield. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Ms. Dowell will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Bettye Jean Dowell was born March 20, 1944, in Daingerfield, Texas to the late Oscar Hurndon and Emma Jones. She accepted Christ at an early age. Bettye attended Greater Hope Church of God In Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. She attended school in Daingerfield and graduated from Rhoad High in 1962. Before retiring, Bettye was employed by Texas Instruments, United States Postal Service and Travelers Insurance. She is preceded in death by husband James W. Dowell, her parents Emma Stephenson and Oscar Hurndon, and stepfather Haskell Stephenson, step sister Bessie Stephenson and step brother Robert Stephenson. Granny will forever be cherished by her children Vincent (Angela) Jones of Lancaster, Texas, Kevin Hurndon of Dallas, Texas, James (Tamiko) Dowell of Tempe, Arizona, and Veronica (Eric) Hawkins of Longview, Texas, step sister Mary (Travis) Dean, Eddie (Sandra) Stephenson, Melvin (Judy) Stephenson, Earnest (Helen) Stephenson, and Everett Stephenson all of Greenville, Texas, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, extended family Lisa (Chris) Smith, Kevin Finley, Beverly (Henry) Hollis, Reuben (Pamela) Hawkins, Special friend Oliver Wendell Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Look to God for your strength, your mom did what she could when she was young to make sure you had what you needed, til you could do for yourself. Remember she loved you! She had a great smile and loved to laugh!

So Sorry for the loss of Betty, her Mom Emma "Nuch" and My Mom "Myrt" were roommates in Greenville, TX and remember the fun times Me, my Sister Ella and Betty visiting them during Summer Vacations. Love Family
