Funeral services for Billy Dean Simmons, 81, of Hughes Springs will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Billy Dean Simmons was born April 17, 1942 in Ennis, Texas to Jake and Lois Parker Simmons. Billy went to be with Jesus on January 4, 2024. Billy was a stubborn, wild, and wonderful man who had countless talents and hobbies. Billy worked as a truck driver, carpenter and cabinet builder. He was a brilliant artist and poet who and has written several books. Billy was a real life old cowboy. He loved horses and animals. He loved to learn. He always had a “project” going, even as he grew older and his health got worse. Above all, Billy was a family man. He adored his grandchildren and he took such good care of his daughter and his “honey”.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sandra Elaine Knobloch, Annie “Susie” Inda Gregory, and Wilda Imogene Jatzlau.

Billy will be missed eternally by his “honey”, Fleta Smith; daughter, Naomi Simmons Patterson and husband Cory; sons: Quwanah Dean Simmons, Houston Simmons, Kenny Simmons, Jakob Simmons, Troy Perry and wife Frances; grandchildren: Kylaer Dean Simmons, Maycie Anne Simmons, M’Kenzie Blaze Bazar, Cooper Dean Patterson, Lailah Patterson, Maycie Ann Patterson, Amaiyah Simmons, Brittany Smoak, Tabitha Clark, and Trevor Perry; and a host of cousins and friends.
