Billy Mack Swindell, age 76, passed away on December 27, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and a lifetime of cherished memories. Born to Oneta and Jacob “Doc” Swindell in Dallas, Texas, Bill was a man of few words, yet his actions spoke volumes. His life was a testament to the belief that actions speak louder than words, resonating far beyond the surface and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.

Bill graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1965 and, following in his father’s footsteps, became a master carpenter. His skilled hands not only shaped wood but also the values of hard work and dedication that defined his character. A veteran of the Vietnam War Conflict, Bill served as a medic in the army, exemplifying selflessness and courage.

Bill’s love for life was evident in his joyous moments spent with family and friends. He cherished the simple pleasures – traveling, playing dominos, playing pool, fishing, and firing up the barbecue. In his working years, everything he did was for the well-being of his family. His hard work and dedication were the pillars upon which his loved ones built their lives.

Retirement ushered in a new chapter for Bill, one filled with the warmth of companionship with his beloved wife, Charlotte. Together, they relished the joys of shared meals with friends and precious moments with family. Bill’s heart overflowed with love for his grandchildren, and he took pleasure in spending time with them and seeing them grow into wonderful individuals.

Dad and Papa Bill, as he was affectionately known, played a central role in the lives of those around him. His straightforward approach to life was tempered with a lack of judgment, ensuring that his advice was both valuable and comforting. He instilled in his family the importance of careful decision-making, unwavering commitment, and living a life of integrity.

His legacy continues to thrive in the lion-hearted spirits of his family, a testament to the enduring love and unparalleled work ethic he instilled in each of them. As we reflect on his life, gratitude fills our hearts for the countless calls, kind words, and boundless love shown by both friends and family during his illness. Their unwavering support echoed the profound impact he had on the lives of others. The shared expressions of care and concern exemplify the strength of the bonds he forged throughout his remarkable journey and served as a poignant reminder of the lives he touched.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Swindell, his parents Oneta McAbee and Jacob Swindell, and his brother Jerry Swindell. He is survived by his children: Lee Swindell, Heather Qualls (Jerry), Robert Golladay (Tracy), Rodney Turner (Julie). Bill was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
