Charles Evans

charles evans
Charles Stephen Evans was born to N.L. and Leona Jordan Evans in LeCompte, Louisiana, on October 15, 1934. His train left the station at 5:15am on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, in Texarkana, Texas.
In his younger years, Charles was stationed in California where he served two years in the army and marine reserves after high school ROTC and briefly attending college at SMU. And Stephen F. Austin State University. AND Angelina College. He married Sue Ann Ward on August 15, 1961 and joined his father working at Cass County Treating Company in Linden, Texas. He and his beautiful bride were married 54 years filled with entertainment, happiness and compromise.
Priding himself in inspiring more young men to broaden their horizans than any other businessman in Cass County, Charles provided endless job opportunites that inevitably became temporary. This was best stated by a family friend who reminisced, "Mr. Evans gave me my first real job in the wood treating plant. This job made me realize really, really fast that any thoughts of NOT going to college should go away."
Well into retirement age he found his dream job at Indian Hills Country Club in Atlanta, Texas. This entailed driving golf carts with half a peanut butter sandwich in his hand and visiting with his buddies six days a week. Honorary pall bearers include the IHCC golfing gang.
He was a dedicated, lifelong Cowboys fan until the very end, which was celebrated in newspapers across the country with Romo's return and a W in the win column this past Sunday. Anyone who valued their time and their opinion knew not to get him started about Jerry Jones. Long live the Cowboys!
He loved to hunt, fish and travel but couldn't single out a "favorite" adventure among them. They were all favorites to him and the stories were different every time he told them so each adventure had a never ending life of its own.
An avid supporter of his children, he encouraged it all: education, careers, friendships, marriage and parenthood. He loved his six grandchildren, especially when they were outside...and he wasn't. He taught them all how to shoot a BB gun, girls and boys alike. Life lessons know no boundaries when it comes to gender and the essetials only learned from a grandfather.
Pop is survived by his wife, Suzie Evans, of the home; one son, Chuck Evans of Linden, Tx; daughters and sons-in-law Kelly and James Joslin of Atlanta, Tx, and Tracy and Jason Borders of Sulphur, Ok. Six grandchildren, Daisy, Ivy, Lily, Sage and Quince Borders and J Joslin. All of his cousins, nieces and nephews know who they are and that he loved them all. All of those who preceded him in death were waiting for him when he got there.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Linden United Methodist Church with Pastor James McMillon officiating and under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
In lieu of flowers, Charles requested that contributions be made to Hospice of Texarkana for their dedication and outstanding service. The cupcakes weren't bad either!
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Michael Hospital, Atlanta, TX; St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, TX (specifically Dr. Steve Glenn, the nurses and staff of 6 South); Kelton Home Health, Atlanta, TX; and Hospice of Texarkana for giving us the best week of our lives.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. Charles was "bigger than life". Charles & Suzie were good neighbors to my parents. On their many walks, coming or going, the Evans never failed to give them a friendly wave or say hello. My dad gave many eulogies in his day. He would have enjoyed the memories shared in the posted memorial of Charles.
