Services for Charles Gholston, 83, of Cason, will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2019 at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Mr. Charles Herman Gholston, the third of six children born to Loy and Odessa Tucker Gholston was born on February 17, 1935 in Cason, (Titus County) Texas.

Charles left home at the age of 14 years old and moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived most of his life.  He attended night school and obtained a General Education Diploma.

He grew up in a God fearing home, and gave his life to Christ at an early age. He used his gift of singing by traveling the country as a  Gospel Quartet Singer. He was an industrious man and held many jobs throughout his career.

Charles met and married Betty Stafford, and they remained a loving, devoted couple for 55 years until her death on May 31, 2015. Charles cared for Betty during her lengthy illness with the utmost care and compassion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gholston; his parents; sister, Vivene Harper; and brother, Reverend John Alvin Gholston.

After a long, purposeful, and fulfilling life Charles Herman Gholston entered rest on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his home.

Those left with loving, fond memories include his beloved sister, Alice Clyde Ladkin; his devoted brothers, Lawrence James Gholston and his wife, Eddie Ree; and Jimmy Cal Gholston, Sr. and his wife Catherine; brother-in-law, Willie Stafford and his wife, Renell; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He also leaves his dear, special friend, Barbara Harris.
