Charles Middleton

November 15, 1947 ~ December 28, 2022
Charles Edwin Middleton, 75, affectionately known as “Charlie” by friends and family, was born in Gadsden, Alabama, on November 15, 1947. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Hughes Springs, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1966 and made lifelong friends. While in Boy Scouts, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and later attended Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin State University.
Outgoing and making friends easily, Charlie put his talents to work in the A.L. Williams Financial Network, and with his engaging personality, work ethic, and sharp intellect, was promoted to the rank of National Sales Director, and later worked as an independent Financial Advisor with offices in both Texarkana and Longview, Texas. He retired in 2018.
Charlie loved the Lord, visiting with family and friends, hunting, competitive speed shooting, fishing, watching football and baseball games, traveling, and enjoyed life in general. To say that he “lit up a room” it is no exaggeration, and when Charlie was your friend or family member, you knew that you could depend on him to be there whenever and wherever he was needed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Donnie and G. Edwin Middleton, his sister Alice, and her husband Jim Crawford.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 28 years, Alison Hooton Middleton, whom they each considered “the loves of their lives”; his daughter, Amanda Middleton Wilkinson, of Longview, Texas; his sons, Gerald Middleton (Tempa) of Ashdown, Arkansas, Brett Fletcher (Darcie) of Henderson, Texas, and Josh and Todd Fletcher of Indianapolis, Indiana; his brother, Dr. Don Middleton (Cindy) of Hawkins, Texas; and grandchildren, Madison and Hayden Middleton of Missoula, Montana; Kayla and Jacob Wilkinson of Midland, Texas; Sienna and Julia Fletcher of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Abbey and Aiden Fletcher of Henderson, Texas; aunt Quilla Alvis of Hamilton, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs, Texas, followed by the celebration of his life at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Hughes Springs Historical Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help people living with Parkinson’s to live well today, at dpf.org.
Charlie was a larger than life leader. With that big smile and deep voice his presence was always felt. We became lifelong friends through. Dr. Bradley's group of Eagle Scouts in the Hughes Springs Explorer Post.
Rest In Peace, Charlie!
Im so sorry to hear of the passing of my friend Charles . Charles was a great guy and will be missed by many. Charles always made a point to say Hi when every we would see each other. RIP ole buddy. Love You.
Charles (and all of the Middleton's) and I/ my family have a very long history , mixed with both sweet and bitter-sweet memories– of course, the " stuff" of life! That said, the Middleton's are like family to us! Sadly, the world has lost yet another rare and infectious smile that lit up a room …and all of our lives that knew and loved him !
RIP, Charlie. You fought the good life. Bravo!
Dear Alison,
I’m sending prayers your way, knowing your loss must be excruciating. The love you two shared was evident to everyone around you, clearly a relationship rare in this day. Seeing Charlie’s smiling face in the obituary brings a lump to my own throat and a tear to my own eye. And I’m confident there are hundreds of other friends experiencing the same. And I remember what a wonderful brother he was to sweet Alice!
I can only imagine what you’ve been through in the past few years as you have dealt with cruel Parkinsons’ disease and what it did to sweet Charlie. May God bless you with the good memories!
With love
My memories of 1966 are very clear even today. I watched Charlie and Alison court through his broken jaw, dance to the 4 Speeds at the Linden Armory, fight over differences in opinion as young people do, and hang out at Lake O' the Pines and Dairy Terry with everybody else. It took them awhile to live enough to realize that they couldn't go on separately. I have missed a long time not reaching out to them soon enough. I always thought Charlie was a cool, smart guy. My deepest sympathy to Alison as she grieves the loss of her love and companion. I pray for peace and solace for her and the entire Middleton family. I love you all, Dinah
I am so sorry to hear about Charlie. I have such good memories of Charlie growing up with him in the Williamson Addition and being friends with him. He and I shared many a laugh talking about good times we shared and him laughing about his memories of my Mother when we were in school. He always had a smile on his face and a good word for everyone. Alison, my prayers are with you and your family during this time. May the Good Lord carry you through this time.
Allways enjoyed the times we were together. You are still part of our family. ??😘

Dear Alison
The first time I met Charlie, I was so touched by his love of life, his smile, and his unwavering devotion to you. The love you both shared is what we all dream of finding.
I know your memories will fill the void left in your heart. My prayers go to you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss & my heart hurts that we lost such a great man like Charlie. We know, however,
that heaven gained an awesome soul!!! I will never forget the times Charlie came & sat with our family when Mom, & then Dad, were in for lengthy hospital stays at Good Shepherd. He always brought encouragement & would stay for the long haul to support our fearful hearts. He had such a great big heart & it meant the world to us that he cared so much. He will be greatly missed!??
Condolences to Gerald and Amanda
Rest In Peace.
