Superintendent Alfred C. Key, Sr. a native of Daingerfield, Texas was born on September 10, 1925 to Roedolphus Key and Sedalia Simmons-Key who precedes him in death. Also preceding him in death are his siblings 1 sister Malissa Traylor and 1 brother Roedolphus Key, Jr. Three (3) children also precede him in death, Erma Jean Key, Delores Key, and James Key, Sr. Pastor Key attended school in the Mt. Zion and Daingerfield, TX area schools. He received his diploma after attending Mechanic and Welding school in 1947. Pastor Key served in the U.S. Army in 1943-1947. Superintendent Key married the love of his life Missionary Rosetta Mason-Key on February 4, 1947and 10 children were born to this union. He worked for Lone Star Steel/USS for 32 years as a plant operator in the Ore Plant Division. Pastor Key was saved in 1969 under the leadership of Supt. Love Charles Castleberry and was called to the ministry in 1971. Appointed Assistant Pastor in 1972 by the late Supt. L. C. Castleberry and a licensed minister in 1974. Pastor Key was appointed District Sunday School Superintendent of the Longview District by Supt. D. L. Smith in 1982. His office continued with a change of leaders as Supt. Alton Davis headed the District. After the demise of Supt. Castleberry, Supt. Alfred C. Key, Sr. was installed as Pastor of the Faith Temple Church of God In Christ by Bishop J. Neaul Haynes, Texas Northeast Jurisdiction Tuesday night May 10, 1988. Pastor Key was elevated to the office of District Superintendent in the July Convocation 1999 by the late Bishop Frank W. Smith, Jr., Texas Northeast 3rd Jurisdiction and continued to serve as Pastor and Superintendent faithfully and supportive in the jurisdiction under the leadership of his present Bishop Torrance W. Johnson until his health failed. Pastor's favorite hobby was fishing and his motto was: " Before Service Speak to God, During Service Let God Speak to You, And After Service Speak to One Another." Superintendent Key leaves to Mourn and Cherish his memories a Loving wife of 66 years Missionary Rosetta Key, 7 children Irene (Charles) Rodgers, Sedalia (Roy) Turner, Pastor Alfred, Jr. (Karen) Key, Michael (Brenda) Key, Verniece (Elder William) Cobbins, Marilyn Key-Doddy, Cecilia (William) Smith; 30 grandchildren, 63 Great-grandchildren, and 3 Great-great, grandchildren; 2 sisters, Junie Mae Jones, and Mildred Thomas; 1 brother Robert Key; 3 sister-in-laws Sister Hazel Mason, Gladys (Joe) Hayes, Ellen (George) Barrier; 2 brother-in-laws Bishop James (Mary) Mason, Alvin (Ethel) Mason and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Faithful Church members, Relatives and Friends and a Special daughter Missionary Patricia Robinson. Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 21 at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield. Burial will follow at Whitmore Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Pastor Key will lie in state from 10 - 5 Friday at the funeral home. There will be a time of visitation from 6 - 8 Friday evening at Faith Temple COGIC.

  1. My condolences goes out to the Key family, especially my bestest (Cecilia). Cousin Alfred was a very sweet person and I have lots of fun memories of him. It broke my heart to see him being taken from the nursing home to the funeral home last night. The most encouraging thing is that he is now in his heavenly home. Thank you Lord!
