Donald Max Williams, age 64, passed away peacefully at his home in Hughes Springs, TX, on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Max was born July 18, 1953 to Ferris Ewing (Junior) and Carolyn Williams in Hughes Springs. He was the 4th of their 5 children.

Max married Debbie Pritchett on August 23, 1974 And together had three children. Joey Max, Amanda Dawn and Dustin Paul. Of all the things that Max was a master at, being a devoted Husband and Father were by far his biggest accomplishments. He believed in the value of family and raising his children to be respectful and loving adults. He gave everything he had and loved with such great love that you knew without a doubt that he loved you. Max was always joyful and would always have the best jokes around the campfire. His wit and sincerity were known by all that knew him. He was said to be one of the best floor covering experts in East Texas. He began laying floors right out of High School and moved to Austin, Texas with Steve Rainwater where he continued perfecting his craft. Upon returning to Hughes Springs, he was under Charles Bailey and worked at C&A Floors for over 10 years. Max then went to work for Lone Star Steel and worked there until the mid 80's when he moved his family to Nacogdoches Texas and he was a builder for Foretravel RV company. He was an extremely talented craftsman. He could build anything with precision. Max and his son Dustin began their own contractor company, Williams Contract Services and worked together there until October 2011. In late 2011 he and Dustin both began working for Southern Star/Dish Network. Max retired in November 2016 and became the building director of all the sets built for The Community Theatre of East Texas’s productions where he worked with his Daughter, Amanda Gammill and his nephew, Matthew Nichols. His most notable set was the two story set for the production of A Christmas Carol with trap doors, as well as, the production of Singing in the Rain that had actual rain falling from the ceiling. His knowledge and craftsmanship will be impossible to replace and sorely missed.

He was a proficient musician and sang excellently with his friends and family. He was especially skilled at playing the harmonica. His musical skills where one of the many that he instilled into all of his children.

Max was a God fearing man that raised his children up in the admonition of the Lord. He loved his Savior and led a life that reflected forgiveness and grace to all.

He is survived by his loving wife Debbie of 43 years and two children, Joey and Candi Williams of Bogota, TX; Amanda and Ricky Gammill of Hughes Springs, TX his siblings Ron Williams, Jimmy Williams and Carla Milikan, and his mother Carolyn Williams. He is preceded in death by his son Dustin, his father Ferris and his sister Dottie Jones. 2. We all have lost such a great friend. Max was indeed my valued best friend … twice actually. We enjoyed life so much together as children, and then upon his family’s return from the Irving area, we grew up as young adults for a year as buddies, confidants, and roommates in Austin. What enduring memories from those times together! To his other friends and family, my most sincere and heartfelt sympathies. Job well done in this lifetime Donald Max, as you begin your journey into eternity and beyond … alongside Carla, Dustin, and Junior. All those you’ve touched are so better off having known you and profited from your kindness and talents. We all will surely miss you, mi amigo … until we meet again!
