Dortha Ann Dunkel of Avinger, Texas passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the age of 86. Mrs. Dunkel was born March 23, 1929 in Oilton, Oklahoma to Frank and Stella (Narramore) Fant. Dortha was a homemaker and enjoyed freelance writing, photography, sewing and gardening. She was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Avinger where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the 1936 Study Club. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Linda Norman of Lubbock and LaDon Grubbs and husband Tom of Austin; two sons, Wayne Dunkel and wife Jackie of Lubbock and Frank Dunkel of Avinger; sister, Bobby Jo Wooters of Illinois; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dortha was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Dunkel in 2011; her parents and brother, James Fant. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Linden Cemetery with Pastor Robert Terry officiating and under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in Avinger or the 1936 Study Club in Avinger.

  2. Dortha was a wonderful person. I did not have much contact with my cousin until she and Loy moved to Avinger. She was a delight to know and could tell some very interesting stories about her adventures during her childhood of moving around with Uncle Frank and Aunt Stella. She will be greatly missed. Cousin Nancy
