Sister Dovie M. Rivers was born December 3, 1932 to the late Sampson Grant and Lily B. James, in Morris County. She married C. L. Rivers on January 19, 1969. He preceded her in death. Dovie was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters; four uncles and two aunts. As a youth, she united with the St. James Methodist Church. In 1967 she became a faithful member of Love Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Elder James Henderson. Later in life, she was a member of Victory Temple. She worked diligently as a missionary. Dovie Maes love of God and his church is well known. She attended J.J. Rhodes High School in Daingerfield. She also worked at Forman Nursing Home for some time, although her main occupation was a loving and caring wife until the death of her husband. Dovie leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Bessie F. King of Cason; three brothers, Harold Wilkerson of Ft. Worth, Charles Ray Wilkerson of Las Vegas, NV and John Carter of Dorchester, MA; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Hall of Mt. Pleasant and Zelma Cyphers of Wichita, KS; and a special friend, Verda Gilstrap. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Faith Temple COGIC in Daingerfield. Burial will follow at Rivers Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
