Dr. Billy Harold Satterfield

September 14, 1978 ~ March 1, 2019
Graveside services for Dr. Billy Harold Satterfield, 40, of Houston, will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Michael White, childhood friend, will be officiating. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Dr. Satterfield was born September 14, 1978 and passed away March 1, 2019. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leslie L. and Shirley Satterfield; and maternal grandparents, Harold and Emily Baird.
He is survived by his wife, Caley Satterfield; mother, Janis Satterfield; father, Billy Joe Satterfield; sister, Stacey and husband Alan Terry Jr.; niece, Brianna Terry; and nephew, Ty Terry.
Dr. Billy Satterfield was a 1997 graduate of Daingerfield High School, 2001 graduate of Henderson State University (Bachelor of Arts, History Major), 2004 graduate of the University of Arkansas (Master of Education), and a 2007 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Doctorate of Education. Billy was previously employed by the University of Houston - Clear Lake as Executive Director of Financial Aid and Registrar. He was currently employed by Deloitte as a senior consultant specializing in higher education software implementation and policy/procedure development.
While at Henderson State University he met his wife, Caley, of 16 years, through their mutual love of music/band. He was an animal lover. He loved to cook and barbecue—as long as it was meat and potatoes! Friends and co-workers describe Billy as funny, smart, kind, and unassuming.
Billy spent his time with his wife scuba diving around the world in places like the Caribbean, Indonesia, and had a special place in his heart for Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean. Because of his love of scuba diving and Bonaire, the family wishes that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Coral Restoration Foundation - Bonaire (www.crfbonaire.org).
Billy was a commercial-rated pilot, and spent many hours in his Beechcraft Sundowner flying for fun and flying needed supplies to hurricane-Harvey affected areas of Southeast Texas.
For the family, I offer my condolence ask God to bless you all. So sorry for your loss.

Billy was a magnetic force with a sharp wit and humorous side that I have never encountered in another person. He was someone that could always make me laugh. Every interaction I had with him involved laughter. He was not aware of it, but his humor got me through some dark times. I could always rely on him to make my day better. This is what I will remember most about Billy. The laughter. I have never met anyone like Billy and surely never will again. My heart goes out to Caley, his family and all those in mourning who was honored to know this magnificent man and call him a friend. I have no doubt that wherever Billy is now he is cracking everyone up. I will never forget you Billy and will remember you through the laughter you brought. Rest in peace friend.

I hope you find comfort in the loved ones around you. I wish I could be there to give you a warm hug. Love you my friend!
I enjoyed my time working with Billy when he was here at UHCL. He was always so helpful to me and I missed him when he left us last year. I will always remember his kindness to me as I was new to the university and he willingly assisted me. May he Rest In Peace.
I had the opportunity to get to know Billy while at UHCL. He was such a great guy and I loved his dry sense of humor. Sending thoughts of peace and to Caley, his family and friends!

Billy was a special person who brightened every work day of mine and those around me over the last several months while he consulted at the University of Rochester. It’s still impossible to imagine coming to work everyday and not hearing Billy’s wisdom and laughter. I miss him. We all miss him. He quickly became part of the UR family and we will never be the same. I hope that I can be a little more like Billy was every day, because he was such a special person. My heart is broken for Caley and all his loved ones.
Prayers for the family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. My heartfelt condolences and prayers for your family.
Dr. Sattefield will be missed at UHCL. I personally enjoyed working along side of him at the graduation celebrations and coordinating all the students at commencement. My condolences to the family.
Billy and I were colleagues for 6 years at UHCL. I so enjoyed working with him, and I appreciated the commitment be showed to meeting students’ needs, both as our Registrar and as our Executive Director of Financial Aid. I always looked forward to meeting and working with Billy: his knowledge of systems and practices and his dry sense of humor made him an ideal colleague. Like so many on campus, I am grateful to have known him, and I will miss him. Rest in Peace, friend.
What a terrible, tragic shame that such a vibrant, vital young life should be cut short by the reckless irresponsibility of a drunk driver. According to The Houston Chronicle, the Houston area leads the nation in deaths due to DWI. We should be motivated by this terrible loss to try to prevent more such tragedies.
I have been working with Billy on the project at the University of Rochester. Billy is a larger than life person who will be seriously missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Caley, Billy’s parents and family and friends.
May my Lord to strengthen and support Dr. satterfield’s wife and parents. On February 24, 2002, my patrol car was T bone by a drunk driver with 2 times alcohol legal limit, I was ejected out through driver side window and I was not breathing. I was lucky to be saved by a passing by Dr. Robert Suter. I know the pain and I am very sorry. I am Lt with Houston Police Department.
So very sorry for your loss. Lean heavily on your friends and family and most especially our gracious Lord. One day you will be together again.
My love and prayers are with all of you… He sure will be missed by everyone.????????????????????????
Caley, we are so sorry for your loss. Please know that your many friends here at UTMB have you in their thoughts and prayers.
Dear Satterfield family, My heart goes out to you and your loved ones at the loss of Billy. He was a great colleague to work with and interact at any time. Man of integrity at all times. I have known Billy for 10 years and we have worked on several audits, Perkins loan FISAPP reporting, student financial aid challenges, student orientation presentations, volunteering at commencements, and more. He was exceptional in the Higher Ed. regulations, easy going person to talk to, simple, down to earth. We also talked about our vacation trips and our interests in flying. The difference was he enjoyed flying the plane and I enjoyed flying in a plane. No words will be enough to express my heart felt condolences to you, but I can assure you that since I heard this sad news I have been praying for Caley and the rest of the family. "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit – Psam34:18 Praying to Lord Jesus who our refuge and strength during this time. Blessings! PS: Unfortunately, I can’t attend the viewing or funeral as I am recovering from my back surgery and I am restricted from driving long distances.
Thanks for the friendship.. Gone but not forgotten..
My prayers and love are with you all. Dr. Billy, as we knew him at UHCL, was always smiling: laughing it up, he brightened our day whenever he visited us in Admissions. He added that special element of fun to our work. I am eternally grateful to have known him. – Mary Lares
Words can not express how truly sorry I am for Billy’s passing. He served as my boss and leader at UHCL, and I am very fortunate to have learned so much from him. My heart is with his family and friends. He was a great man and will be missed dearly.
My deepest sympathies to Billy’s family and friends. While I did not know Billy personally, to learn of all that he did during his short life to live life to the fullest and help his fellow man whenever possible is truly inspiring. May God bless Billy and his family.
I am grateful for the opportunity our paths crossed and you open the doors for me to work at UHCL and the chance to go back to school to get my Masters degree. I am also thankful for your laughter, the barbecue and just your "down to earth spirit" your presence will always be present at UHCL. I will continue to smile when I think of you, Billy.
My love and prayers are with all of you… He sure will be missed by everyone.????????????????????????
Billy – you will be missed by everyone from Workday, and everyone from the University of Rochester team. Your personality was warm, you were always so approachable and easy to talk to – it felt as though I’d known you for years. This is a huge loss and we will always remember how you kept our University of Rochester office in such good spirits, each and every day.
Know that you are all in our prayers and that you are not alone. We are here for you,
I meet Billy after taking a position in the financial aid office at the University of Houston Clear Lake, and worked with him for nearly 5 years. What a loss. One of the most genuine, good people I have ever meet, with a love for life I was always fascinated with. I learned a lot from Billy, and will move forward knowing I am a better man from my short time with him. His memory will live on with all the people he has touched in his life. My thoughts are with Caley and his family.
Caley, I do not know how to express my deepest sympathy to you. Billy was such a wonderful person and I’m going to miss him, too. May him rest in peace My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Respectfully, Tripti

Billy was an incredible friend, colleague, student, professional, who always had a smile on his face and something insightful to share. He will be greatly missed. Caley, you are most certainly in my thoughts and prayers.
I have written to Sherry (Satterfield) Ray for 50 years and during that time I have got to know all about (and followed with interest) the Satterfield family; when they got married; had children; and other events during that time. I was so very sorry and shocked to hear the sad news about Billy. There is nothing I can say that will make your heartache any easier. But in time you will be able to remember all the happy times. My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. LX
Billy was a great person. I got to know him and his wife Caley when we got scuba diving certified way back in the day. He was one of the good ones and will be missed. Caley I am so sorry for your loss.
Caley, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May God give you strength and a shoulder to lean on during this difficult time.
Praying for the family. May God bless you in the days to come.
I had the pleasure of meeting Billy at UHCL in the fall 2013. You could always count on Billy to bring a smile to your face. Through the years we had various conversations, but the one I remember is when I discovered our spouses had flying in common. He seems so passionate about flying. Loved that picture of his plane in his office. Over and out.
Caley, Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers! Much love and blessings to all the family and friends! Kim Bush
Billy was such a great person, funny and always very helpful. I learned so much from him and I always appreciated his advise and friendship. He is going to be missed a lot by all of us that knew him.

You’ll always be in my memories, Billy. Thanks for helping me learn the difficult pieces in jazz band. You’ll be missed.
Many thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time.
My heartfelt sympathy. God will always be with you.
My heart aches for you.
Billy was a genuine leader, always taking time for his employees when they needed him. He had the best stories on slow nights in the office. A funny dude, Billy was truly one of a kind. I’ll never forget the guidance he offered during the years I worked with him. He will be dearly missed.
We were in band together at HSU. He always made me smile.
His picture looks like Mr Satterfield never had a bad day. That is the testament of a fulfilled life..where he was well-loved and respected, and gave the same to others. God rest his soul, peace and comfort to family and friends.
Deepest condolences to you and your family Billy Ray. Your son was amazing! Wow! He made every effort to be the best at whatever he set his mind to. What a blessing to this world and all who knew him. His accomplishments show us all what God can do when we just let Him. I know you were so proud of him. May you take comfort knowing there will be a great reunion in Heaven.
Even though you were taken suddenly, you have left a legacy. Many students lives were changed and their families lives were changed forever thanks to your work and time spent at UHCL. Some students could not have had that education to change their lives without those scholarships. They could not have a future without the education to get the jobs to support their families. You made a difference and left a foot print in the world. May you have peace for eternity.
Sending prayers.
I did not know Billy but my thoughts and prayers are with his family.
