Born in: Atlanta, Texas
Resided in: Bivins, Texas

Dwendolyn Wicks Raney, 77, of Bivins, Texas, passed away at her home on August 25, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born March 26, 1948, in Atlanta, Texas, Dwen lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and devotion to her family. She had a natural green thumb and loved tending to her yard and garden. A bird watcher and animal lover, she found joy in feeding her chickens, squirrels, foxes, and the many birds that visited her home. She was an accomplished cook who prepared everything from scratch, and she delighted in gathering her family around the table.

Dwen’s hands were always busy with acts of care, whether sewing, gardening, or helping others in need. She was a faithful member of McLeod Church of Christ and a cherished part of a large extended family. Above all, she deeply loved her children and grandchildren, who were the pride of her life.

Over the years, she poured her energy and creativity into her work, owning and operating Merle Norman Cosmetics for more than 20 years, lending her talents to Benita’s Flower Shop, and working alongside her husband Roy at Raney’s Carpet Store.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel “Mutt” and Howard “Buster” Wicks; her brother, Larry Wicks; and her beloved son, Darrel Alan Raney.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Raney; her daughter Darla Courtney and her husband Jason; granddaughters, Kira Barone, Skyla Courtney, and Payden Courtney; two precious great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. She will also be lovingly remembered by her best friend, Dianna Reed and her husband Stanley; special friend, Linda Ashworth; and many others whose lives she touched.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Willis Knighton Cancer Center, including Dr. Peddi, Ashley, Shawna, and Eddie; the staff of North Caddo Medical Center Rehab; and the compassionate team at Heritage Hospice for their dedicated care. They also wish to thank the many family members and friends who offered visits, calls, meals, prayers, and support during her journey.

A memorial service to celebrate Dwen’s life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at McLeod Church of Christ.

  8. Whenever I’d meet or visit Dwen, it never failed that she radiated on her face the joy of the Lord. I do believe that a God-given gift was that of hospitality. She was instrumental in planning and organizing extended family reunions and school reunions. She welcomed friends to visit with her at her childhood home; the most memorable for me was on her large back porch, her “reading porch.” I’ll miss her.

  9. Candle 5I am so sad to see this news of Dwen’s passing. She was a shining light! I’m so sorry for this loss and pray for all who mourn her. Sending love and strength

  10. Candle 8I lived and was raised just down the hill from Dwen’s home at Maxie Peach Orchard near the Rambo Crossroads, Hwy 125. She and I were in McLeod School for a time and rode the same school bus. I remember her as a kind and generous, helpful Child of Christ. Growing up there, I also attended the McLeod Church of Christ along with my parents and knew all of Dwen’s family. This world lost a wonderful young lady and I know she is rejoicing with family and friends on Heaven,, Our Heart felt love and condolences to Roy and all the family.. Our Lord says, “I have plans for you.” Jeremiah 29:11, and “I will fight for you. Be still.” Exodus 14:14… Lots of love, Nolan and Jean Maxie

  11. Candle 5My heart aches knowing that my dear friend is now in heaven. I’ll always cherish the conversations we shared on her porch, the laughter, and the wisdom she so generously offered. She was a true blessing in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. My deepest condolences — I will miss Dwen dearly.

  12. I am so sorry to learn of Dwen’s passing. I found her through Ancestry.com when we were both older. I was so glad to have her as a long-lost cousin. Even though I knew her for only a relatively short time, it was great to know her at last. Her eyes did sparkle and she was always friendly. I’ll miss her.
