Earnest Gardner Jr

Services for Earnest Gardner, Jr. , 71, of Ore City, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Daingerfield. Burial will follow at Rhodes Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. Mr. Gardner will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Earnest Sam Gardner, Jr. was born August 1, 1945 to the parentage of Earnest S. Gardner, Sr. and Marie A. (Abron) Gardner in Daingerfield, Texas.
Earnest was introduced to Christ at a very young age where he joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Daingerfield.
He received his education in Pittsburg, Texas at Fredrick Douglass High School, graduating with the class of 64. Upon finishing high school, he began working as a masonry (bricklayer). Soon after that went to work at Thikol in Karnack, Texas for five years. Earnest then worked at Lone Star Steel in the electric arc furnace for 38 years before he retired. During his time at Lone Star Steel he was the grievance man for Local Union 4134. He also served on North East Texas Credit Union Board of Directors for 13 years. Earnest enjoyed and loved working in the church rendering his service to the Good Lord. Deacon Earnest Gardner, Jr. was a faithful, active member at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Earnest especially enjoyed his role as Chairman for the North East Texas District Board #2. Earnest was a loving husband and father. He took pride in taking family vacation road trips with family and friends. He enjoyed telling his grandkids about his travels and how he didnt have to use GPS because he knew God had the master plan.
On June 8, 1968, Earnest married JoAnn Jones and to this union two daughters and one son were born, and raised a very special niece that he treated like their own.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Marie; and one brother, Thomas Earl Gardner.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, JoAnn Gardner; son, Earnest Gardner III of Irving; two daughters and a special son-in-law, Dorothy Gardner of Ore City, Regina and Kel Watson of Marietta; ;special niece, Tiffany (Pat) Blaylock of Grand Prairie; four grandchildren, Kyle Neal of Ore City, Kelci and K.C. Watson of Marietta, and Matthew Blaylock of Grand Prairie; three brothers, Theardis Gardner of Ore City, Pastor John (Maggie) Gardner of Longview, and Melvin Gardner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Willie Marie (Hollis) Tennison of Gilmer, Shirley Marie Roan of Frisco; father-in-law, Charles Jones of Avinger; one aunt, Zeffer Bea Hooks of Amarillo, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
