Funeral services for Emma Stephenson, 86, of Daingerfield, will be 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc., in Hughes Springs. Emma Jean (Jones) Stephenson was born November 22, 1925, in Morris County, Texas to Henry Jones and Ludie (Peel) Jones, both whom precedes her in death. She was married to Asker Stephenson, whom also precedes her in death. She was one of six children: Clyde Jones, Luella Reeves, Stella Mae Mims, Henry Jones and Lawrence Jones. She was blessed with one child, a daughter, Bettye Jean (Jones) Dowell. Emma Jean attended Mt. Zion Community School. She was a long time member of Wesley Chapel CME Church in Greenville, Texas. There, she was a member of the sorority fo the Daughters of Wesley CME. As an adult, Emma accepted Christ as her Savior and lived a life of commitment to the Lord at her home church, Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. She spent countless hours working in Sunday school and holding the office of treasurer for the Adult Class. Emma Jean devoted herself as the mother of her daughter, Bettye Jones Dowell. She leaves to mourn her memory, her daughter, Bettye; four grandchildren: Vincent Sr. (Angela), Kevin, James Sr.(Tamiko), and Veronica (Eric Sr.); 13 great grandchildren: Veancha (David), Vanity (Tadarius), James Jr, Jarron, LaQuintus, Alexius, Eric Jr, Tiana, Arbany, and Jalan Anthony; Five great great grandchildren: Kairi Belle, Tydarius, Travis, Taiylor, David Jr, and Jeremiah. During her marriage to Asker Stephenson, she accepted 6 children as her own: Everett, Earnest, Robert, Eddie (San), Melvin (Judy), and Mary (Travis); three grand children: Kisa, Yolanda, and Tiffany; and a host of other grandchildren and great grand children. She also leaves to mourn her memory an ex-daughter-in- law, Bobbye Gotcher Stephenson; ex-grand daughter-in-law, Darlene Jones; extended family: Mary Williams (Bitty and Mickey), Rhonda (Demetric), Bevery (Henry), special niece, Martha Jones, and Shekedra Hawkins and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. It is not with sorrow or grief, but with joy and delight that we shall remember this beautiful, high spirited, self-sacrificing, and loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, and grandmother.
