Ernestine, affectionately known as Mama, Grandma, and Big Mama, was born December 14, 1940, to Theodore and Florence Van Loue. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lone Star, Texas, where she and Robert served as Pastor and First Lady for many years and served the members of the church and the community.
Ernestine was sure to make you laugh with that feisty, witty personality. This is what so many loved and adored about her which resulted in her being crowned Valentine’s Day Queen at Grace Hill Rehabilitation Center in Hughes Springs, Texas. Ernestine could often be seen enjoying a competitive game of Bingo or having an engaging conversation with other residents and staff.
Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Cynthia Anderson, Marvin Anderson, Teresa Hartfield, David (Felicia) Smith, Whitney Briley, and Andrea Joe. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will forever remember her laughter and EVERY dance move she ever taught them including Big Mama’s “shake a tail feather dance!”

Ms. Ernestine was BEAUTIFUL soul!, inside and out. She could make you LAUGH& mad in same sentence. It was a PLEASURE delivering meals, braiding her hair was a joy. Ms. Ernestine enjoyed me coming saying it’s time but ii it wash time she’d say I don’t feel like it. When shopping she’d say who paying I don’t have any money and laugh. I’d just say done worry, it’s covered. Then she’d SHOP! Gone BUT never FORGOTTEN.
