Esther L. Lewis

July 16, 1928 ~ December 10, 2017
On July 16, 1928, in Naples, Texas, Arthur and Mattie
Boyd welcomed their second daughter and sixth child, who they named Esther. She had four older brothers. The oldest died shortly after birth (no name given). The others were Ervin, Larry, and Arvester. Marthareen was the first daughter. Born after Esther were Evans, Erlane, and Arvis.
Esther completed elementary school and junior high at Celeste School, located on the Boyd Farm. The school was founded by her grandfather, Mabe Boyd. She then attended and graduated from Carver High School in Naples, Texas.
Shortly after high school, she married Marshall Lewis, a very
caring and supportive husband who preceded her in death in 2002.
Esther was a homemaker. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, etc.
She warmly greeted and invited people into her home.
Family was very important to Esther. She took care of both parents when they became ill and could no longer care for themselves. She also took care of two of her brothers when their health failed. She was very compassionate, always friendly, and capable of making new friends. Esther was not shy. One of her sisters once said Esther could have been a stand up comedienne because she enjoyed making family and friends laugh. Esther was known for her generosity and loving concern for others, especially children.
Esther dedicated her life to Jehovah God in her adult years. She loved being at Jehovah’s house, along with having a share in preaching and teaching the truth of God’s Word, and of God’s purpose as long as her health permitted. Esther had hope and looked forward to a resurrection on Earth.
Esther leaves behind one brother, Evans Boyd (Jewel) of Tacoma, Washington; Two sisters: Erlane Hervey of Oxnard, California and Arvis James of Oxnard, California; One sister-in-law, Myra Williams of Naples, Texas; One brother-in-law, Bose Hill, Jr. of Dallas, Texas. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services for Ms. Lewis will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2017 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Ms. Lewis will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

My Condolences to the Bereaved Family. My Prayers for Comfort and Peace
I will miss all of the laughs we shared. I know you’re resting in peace.
IT IS WITH EXTREME SADNESS THAT I AM SENDING THIS MESSAGE. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU AND THE WONDERFUL TIMES WE HAD . I LOVE YOU MY DEAR COUSIN.
God bless you Aunt Esther. I will always have fond memories of you, especially when I spent time with you when I was a little boy. May you rest in peace. Your Nephew, Ervin W. Boyd
We deeply regret we were not informed in time to attend Esther’s memorial. Esther, in her heyday, was the historian of the Boyd family. She could connect people and stories across the generations- she knew the personalities, timelines, and the settings. Esther’s humor, and the colorful details she infused, made the stories and people come alive. We learned so much from these rich tales. We all enjoyed spending summers on the farm. Esther was deeply loved and she will be greatly missed. Erva Jean Boyd, beloved niece, and the family of Ervin "Judge" Boyd
My heart and love goes out to the family. Ester was a lovely, warm, and extremely wonderful kind and humorous person.
