Evelyn Edna Jacobs

evelyn jacobs
After 90 glorious years on this earth, Evelyn Hampton Jacobs departed for her heavenly home on October 3, 2012. We join to celebrate her life at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cornett Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., Friday, October 5, 2012 at the funeral home. She was child number three of the ten children born to George William and Ruth Hampton. As a young woman she married Leonard Jacobs, who also came from a very large family. They were married for 68 years. Evelyn always said how blessed she was to marry into such a loving family that there was no distinction in the love given her from blood kin vs in-law-kin. Beneath a matronly exterior was the soul of a woman who lived her Christian faith every day, a woman who said what she meant and meant what she said. She shared with all of the world an awesome sense of humor and a quick wit. She had a sharp mind til her last days. Her working life was at the Hughes Springs School Cafeteria. Being around the students kept her young. The joys of her life, in addition to being a mother, grandmother, and sister, were quilting, cooking, and gardening. She was raised in the Cornett and Cross Roads communities and started her love of gardening as a child chopping cotton. It continued through out her life with flowers, vegetables, and most especially garlic. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Jacobs; one sister, Annie Crossland; three brothers, Morris, Lawrence, and Robert Hampton. Survivors include one son, Doug Jacobs and wife Demeris, of Avinger; one daughter, Marilyn Coker and husband Ron, of Hughes Springs; six grandchildren, Darryl, Darrin, and Darlene Jacobs, Kendra Sims, Michael Coker, and Michelle Goodson; 14 great grandchildren, Matthew, Justin, Collin, Cassidi, Kenneth, Pauline, Jessica, Truitt, Jacob, Shilo, Christopher, Dillon, Patrick, and Haley; one great-great granddaughter, Emme Jacobs; two sisters, Jean Davis and LaVerne Vaughn; three brothers, George Weldon, Alvis, and Auvis Hampton. The family requests that memorials be made to Cornett Cemetery, 11290 FM 144 North, Omaha, TX 75571 or Cypress Basin Hospice, 207 Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455 Online condolences may be left to www.reeder-davis.com
