Evelyn Hall Coulter

December 9, 1913 ~ December 6, 2019
Mary Evelyn Abernathy Hall Coulter was born December 9th 1913, in Hughes Springs, Texas; Evelyn left this earthly life on December 6th 2019, in Flower Mound, Texas, just 3 days shy of age 106, to join her Creator and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and others who preceded Evelyn to her heavenly home.
Evelyn was # 8 of 12 Abernathy children, born to James Dolphus Abernathy and Mattie Bell Stacey Abernathy, and lived the longest of those children. Evelyn graduated from Hughes Springs High School.
Evelyn married twice, first to Hilliard Perry (“Tunny”) Hall, of Hughes Springs, who predeceased Evelyn; Tunny and Evelyn had 3 children – daughter Carolyn, who died shortly after birth, followed by daughter Sherry and son Navan (“Van”). Grandchildren and great-grandchildren followed (as noted below). For more than half of her long life Evelyn lived in the Crossroads Community of Hughes Springs, Texas. After years of widowhood, Evelyn remarried, to Harold Coulter of Atlanta, Texas (where they resided during their marriage and for years after Evelyn was widowed a second time). During Evelyn’s last years she moved from Atlanta to Flower Mound, Texas, to be near her children, both of whom live in Denton County, Texas.
Evelyn is now survived by her daughter Sherry Johnson, by whom she has 3 grandchildren (Delane Richmond, Krista Ledbetter, and Drew Johnson); Evelyn is also survived by her son, Navan Hall, by whom Evelyn has 2 more grandchildren (Dax Hall and Lacey Jade Nalley). Through these 5 grandchildren Evelyn is great-grandmother to 9 more descendants: Remington, Kenny, Kellie, David, Trent, Sydney, Jack, Hunter, and Hudson. Evelyn is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, cousins, and many other friends.
During most of Evelyn’s long life she was a very active member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church (Hughes Springs), and later of Tanglewood Missionary Baptist Church (Atlanta), including decades of honoring her Lord, there, by teaching Sunday School and by serving in many other capacities. Only in eternity will it be known, all of the lives who have benefited, directly and indirectly, from Evelyn’s life.
Local services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2019 (Evelyn's Birthday) at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Dennis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Monday and lasting until service time.
Sherry, Navan and families–just wanted to let you know how very sorry we are in the loss of Evelyn. She was definitely loved by so many in the her family as well as the community. She was a leader in her church and loved by all the couples she taught. She was fierce in her love of God and shared it in Ladies Auxillary. She was always willing to help out with the little ones in Bible School. She definitely loved her Lord!
I admired her vagabond spirit and love of travel that she had! It didn't matter that she was traveling solo….she was always with an entourage of her companions.
She loved talking about her travels, but most of all she loved talking about her family. She loved her sisters & brothers, her cousins, nieces & nephews….she loved them all…but again…most of all she loved you … Navan and Sherry Ann and those grandkids. You were the highlights of Evelyn's life. She loved the visits made to and from your homes. She loved the visits from the grandkids in the summer. Evelyn loved and was loved by all she came in contact with. She left a legacy of her love everywhere she went!
Just know that while we are indeed sorry for your loss, we celebrate with you her reunion with all of loved ones who went before. Love you guys!
So sorry about aunt Evelyn. Praying for all the family.
A true servant of our Lord. Ms. Hall was a beautiful and amazing woman in each respective title held – wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, friend, etc. She enriched and touched the life all those with whom she had contact. She lived a long, fruitful life and will be missed by her loved ones and many friends left here on earth. It was an honor having known and been a part of her life. I pray God will wrap his loving arms around each member of this family, giving them strength to get through. Nancy L.Hall
Sherry and Navan, so sorry about Aunt Evelyn's death.
She was always a go- getter. I have fond memories of going to see her and Uncle Tunny. Prayers and love to both of you.
