Francis Joseph Herron
July 16, 1942 - March 30, 2019
Joe, as all of his friends and family knew him, was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Francis Haldeane Herron and Rosa Catherine Renz Herron. He loved the outdoors, riding, horses, fishing, cooking, and gardening. Joe had a great sense of humor, a fun guy to be around. He was a caring people person, always looking out for others. Not a fan of suits and ties, he was a smart man who chose to work with his hands. He shared his many useful skills and talents with his children as well as friends and strangers alike. Some called him Dr. Joe because he was a great problem solver. To those he had met, he, loved, and to those he had not met, the love would’ve been the same.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sherilyn Herron; and sister, Roseanne Herron.
Joe is survived by his son, Francis Jason Herron and wife Karyn, grandchildren, Milana, Francis, Jacob, and Sydney; his brother, Dan Herron and wife Linda; his sister, Mary Jenner and husband Colin; former wife, Annice Venable; his companion, Vanita Bowers.
He will be missed by a wealth of family and friends who celebrate his life well lived. Joe Herron loved life and life loved him.
There are no services planned at this time.
The king of the one liners, and bad puns. A man of many experiences, and lots of stories. Who when he wore his red toboggan, looked amazingly like Jacques Cousteau. Gonna miss you Joe.
Loved Joe, he always made me laugh.
I will miss Joe, especially his sense of humor. I am so saddened that he did not get to spend time with us before he left this world. Now he is at rest with his parents, his daughter, and all friends and family who passed before him. He will be truly missed.
‘The best friendships are like really good dreams, you never really remember when they start, but you never want them to end.’ Francis Joseph Herron (Joe) was my neighboor growing up in Spring my entire childhood life. He was one of many father figures I had the privilege of having in my youth when my dad couldn’t always be there, but the best part is that he always treated me like a son, a grandson, a friend, a brother, etc. He taught me so SO much; from riding horses to home renovation, from cleaning and cooking fish to felling trees. Many of situations and problems we had always turned into fun enjoyable teaching experiences with Joe coming over at just the right moment, the impeccable timing Joe always had’ priceless. Since us moving apart, I’ve never not thought of the fond times we shared, from taking me out for early morning doughnuts to supporting me in ever single scouting or youth event I ever had. Unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to know or grow up with my biological grandfathers but Joe was an absolutely amazing man and made a fantastic substitute grandpa to me and is by far one of the greatest people I have ever known. There are TOO many memories I have of this great man to share them all, but the impact Joe had on my life and who I am today I will keep and cherish immensely for the rest of my life. Farewell my friend, rest easy and may God be with you until we meet again.
Endurance rides and our time on the trails was some of the best times of my life. I will miss you, Joe. You were always a great friend, and you will be missed.
Keep that campfire going, Joe.
I miss you so much. 💗
