George R. Brannon, Jr. (Rene) was born March 13, 1941 to Tidy Mary Tyler and George Brannon, Sr. and passed away July 31, 2015. He attended public school in Houston. He joined the Army and served in 1960 in Ft. Riley, KS; 1962 in Ft. Wainwright, AK; 1965 stationed in Ft. Jackson, SC; overseas deployment Vietnam in Korea; 1970-1971in Ft. Shafter Honolulu, HI (Ford Island) Warehouse, Schofield Barracks Honolulu, HI; and in 1972 Honorable Discharge as a SSG, Oakland, CA. He was a Private Investigator; was one of the 24 Men & Women held in Russia during the Vietnam War when their plane (The Sea Board World Airline) took off from McChord AFB and was intercepted by Russian MIG's to land in the Kurile Islands. Mr. Brannon worked at Red River Army Depot in 1972; in 1974 worked in Dallas with vending machines; in 1974 with soft water services in Oceanside, CA; in 1976 with Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, WA; worked at Lone Star Steel; and retired from Pilgrims Pride. His hobbies were DJ Rene, a Dart Champion and a National Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. George and Tidy Brannon; sister, Elizabeth Watkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Dorotha Jean Brannon; children, George W., Brian Brannon, Leilani Brannon-Liu and her husband William, Michael Gillespie, Matthew Gillespie, and Van Holloman; grandchildren, Bria Brannon, Iris Fiaui, Simone Liu, Leanna Liu, Vinila Liu, Keahi Gillespie, Meraisha Gillespie, Keauni Gillespie, Makaio Gillespie, Kaleo Gillespie, Mahalia Gillespie, Michael Gillespie, Jr., Khloe Gillespie, Amaya Gillespie, Matai Gillespie, and Matthew Gillespie, Jr.; siblings, Delores Brannon, Charles Brannon, Mary Anne Brannon, Ronnie Brannon; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services for Mr. Brannon will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home of Hughes Springs. Mr. Brannon will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation hours will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
