Glynn Garvin Sloan

Glynn Garvin Sloan, a retired mechanical engineer, passed from this life on February 8, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Western Hills Church of Christ in Fort Worth, Texas. There will be a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday and lasting until service time. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Hughes Springs, Texas under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.
Glynn was born on Christmas Eve in 1929 to William Lee and Lona Sloan in Tyler, Texas. He was a graduate of Bullard High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Southern Methodist university. He excelled in sports; namely basketball, track, boxing, football, and golf. He played semi-pro basketball for Hughes Tool Co. in Houston, Texas.
He was employed by General Dynamics (now known as Lockheed) in 1956 where he was a Design Engineer and retired in 1991 as a Quality Assurance Manager. Glynn was a registered Texas and National Mechanical Engineer. He served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean conflict. He was married to Dora B. O'Dell on April 20, 1951.
Preceding Glynn in death was his wife of 67 years, Dora O'Dell Sloan; father, William Lee Sloan and mother, Lona Porter Sloan; brothers, Lloyd Sloan and Harold Sloan; and sister, Emilie Sloan Burell.
He is survived by daughter, Glynna Melissa Phillips and husband, Dave of Watauga; son, Chadric Todd Sloan and wife, Debbie of Mesquite; grandchildren, Jade, Brianna, Madison, and KayLeigh; great-grandchild, Remington; sister, Beatrice Chambers of Elkhart; sisters-in-law, Harriet O'Dell of Kennedale and Mabel Sloan of Crosby; seven nieces; two nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
