Goldie Waldon

April 24, 1925 ~ February 2, 2013
A precious wife and Mother was called home to live with her Savior on Feb. 2, 2013. She was loved as Nana to her grandchildren. Goldie Marie Vaughn was born on April 24, 1925, in Jenkins, Texas. She grew up in Morris County and attended schools in and around Daingerfield. She married James C. Waldon on August 7, 1943 and raised a family of three sons and one daughter. Goldie was an active member of South Union Missionary Baptist Church in Jenkins until physical limitations prevented her attendance. Except for a few brief periods of employment at the National Geographic Society in Maryland and locally, Goldie was a devoted homemaker. Her life was spent caring for and ministering to others. Countless people through the years benefited from her covered dishes and the love and concern she expressed during times of sickness or loss. She enjoyed sewing for her family and was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren whom she loved and thoroughly enjoyed. Her golden years were spent in Daingerfield, Longview and Rockwall, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James C. Waldon; son, Tommie Waldon; her parents, Richard Earl and Dollie Mae Vaughn; three brothers, Clarence, Floyd and Hubert Vaughn; three sisters, Opal Hare, Allie Dee Thomas and infant sister, Erma Elizabeth Vaughn. She is survived by; three children, Jim Waldon and daughter-in-law Marsha of Denison, Barbara Karbowski and son-in-law Steve of Quinlan and David Waldon and daughter-in-law Chrysteen of Rockwall; one brother, Bootsy Vaughn of Daingerfield; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Our loss is heavens gain. Funeral services will be held at the Reeder-Davis Funeral Chapel in Hughes Springs, Texas on Feb 6, 2013 at 1:30 pm with the Reverends Don R. Vaughn and Chad Thompson officiating. A Family Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Feb, 5th. Interment will be in the Clark Family Cemetery in Jenkins, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the mission fund at South Union Missionary Baptist Church, Daingerfield, TX.
We were so saddened by the loss of your very precious mom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Wish we could be there for the funeral but know that we are there in spirit and love you all.
Our heavenly family is rejoicing. We will miss her mischevious smile!
To my Nana, you are going to be very missed. Thank you for all of your phone calls, your prayers, worrying about my family like you worry about all of your children and grandchildren. For being a bigger part of my life than you realized. What a blessing you were to all of us. I love you. I know you are smiling at us from heaven because you are finally where you have wanted to be. My thoughts and prayers to my family for healing. Rhonda
