Funeral services for George "G.W." Smith, 90, of Hughes Springs, will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow Hughes Springs Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. George was born September 23, 1922 at Crossroads Community in Hughes Springs and passed away July 27, 2013 at a nursing home in Hughes Springs. Mr. Smith served in the Army and was a retired Pastor at Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Smith also worked at Lone Star Steel and was a fireman there. Survivors include his three sons: Larry and Lee Ellen Smith of Richardson; Ronny and Pam Smith of Hughes Springs and Bobby Joe and Angela Smith of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Maj. Lawrence Travis and Jennie Smith, Jennifer Lee and David Gilmer, Tracy Leigh Burgin and Jeff Barnett and Whitney and Derrick Jenkins, 5 grandchildren; Cori Smith, Laura Smith,Brooks Barnett, Logan Jenkins and Jaxon Jenkins, and one sister, Doris Nell Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise Smith, and 3 brothers and three sisters.

  1. G.W. was a fun kid to grow up with and school was just as fun as my family and his were all Crossroads family, everybody was family. A very pleasant young man growing up. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. God Bless.
