Hosea’s remarkable life began on July 22, 1919 when he was born to George and Mary McCain in Ore City, Texas. Over the course of more than a century he touched countless lives with his strength, wisdom, unwavering spirit.
Hosea passed away peacefully at the age of 106 on December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of Love, resilience and family devotion.
He received his early education at Sun-View School. Hosea came to know Christ at a young age at Murray League Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He later united with Christ Sanctified Holy Church – now known as Hodge Temple Church – where he worshipped and served faithfully until his health declined.
Hosea served in the United States military – Army Air Forces – during World War II from 1942 to 1946. After his service in the military, Hosea worked for many years at Lone Star Steel.
In August of 1946, he married Alice Washington McCain and to this union nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; one sone, PFC Johnny McCain; and one daughter, Ivory Jo McCain-Gaines.
Hosea later married Mary Blackmon McCain in August 1995, and they shared 30 loving years together. Their life together was filled with joy and companionship. They enjoyed the simple pleasures of farming, church and doting on the grandchildren.
During his younger years, Hosea poured his energy into baseball as a player, Coach and mentor. He loved spending his free time hunting, fishing and working the farm.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of thirty years, Mary McCain; Three sons, Tommy (Sandra), Waylon (Carol) and Scott (Nadra); Four daughters, Sherri (George), Carylon, Glenda and Vivian (Kenneth); Seventeen grandchildren, Fred (Ebonye), Donte (Jennifer), Chonita (Rafael), Bronshe, Damon, Deron, Kassie, Matthew, Alice, Wesley, John, Chad, Shayla, Tori, Madison, Reaghan and Thompson. Fifteen Great-Grandchildren and two Great-Great Grandchildren. He also leaves Clarence Gaines (son-in-law), a lovely Sister-in-law (Dorothy Patton) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and four bonus children.
