Services for Ms. Irene Wright will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Love Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Love Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis funeral Home in  Hughes Springs. Ms. Wright will lie in state from 10-:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. 

       Irene Wright, affectionately know as “Madea” to many, was born to Roosevelt Floyd Wright and Lula Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Catherine Wright; brother, Cranford Wright; granddaughter, Melinda Diane Wright; grandson, Alvin Ray Wright; two sons-in-law, L.T Lewis and Charlie Murphy; and grandson-in-law Terence Williams.

       Irene was born in Camp County. She was educated at Marlestone School and Carver High, Naples, Texas. She graduated from Valarie Hurd’s Beauty School in Marshall, Texas. Irene accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Love Chapel Baptist Church and was a faithful and active member who loved to serve until her health would no longer allow. She loved to cook and share meals with her family and friends. She worked as a housekeeper until retirement.

       Irene leaves to live out her legacy, four children, Floydia Lewis, Maurene Hill, both of Dallas, Patricia Murphy of Daingerfield, and Willie Wright of Hughes Springs; grandchildren, Steven Lewis (Beckie) of Dallas, Darryl Lewis of Lancaster, Alethia Williams of Dallas, and Elvis Henderson of Dallas; six great-grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

  2. Irene was my "other Mama" starting when I was 4 years old…until I left for college and then beyond!! I treasure my memories of her. She was very special to our family. I still miss her fried pies to this day!! She will be truly missed.

  5. I can honestly say I have known Irene my whole life. She came to work for my family when I was just a few days old. She kept me & Melinda when Mom went back to work full time. She helped raise me & was a huge part of my family’s life, especially Mom. What a beautiful friendship they shared!! Irene took a very special place in our hearts because of her beautiful sweet spirit!! Love her so much!
