July 28, 1917 ~ January 17, 2015
Iva Lou Phillips Putman Duncan went to be with her Savior and family January 17, 2015 at her home in Hughes Springs, Texas. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Iva Lou Putman was born July 28, 1917 in Cason, Texas from the union of Thomas Clairborn Phillips to Vada Lee Carter, whos passing occurred January 19, 1918. Ultimately, Thomas remarried Emily Nance and the two reared Iva until her union to Ceil Madison Putman on May 22, 1932. The union of Iva and Cecil resulted in eleven children. Cecil went to be with the Lord in May of 1968. Ivas life for the following 26 years was full and faithful. Even through the trials and tribulations of raising and inspiring her children, she maintained her spiritual strength with humility while inspiring all she met with kindness and understanding. Iva found love with a 2nd mate. She married Russell Duncan February 4, 1994 and he passed away February 14, 1996. Iva was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Madison Putman and Russell Duncan; three daughters, Lilly Lee Nix, Hilda Syrena Jackson, and Clara Lou Myers; one son, Cecil Winfred Putman; four grandchildren, Adam Wes Crocker, Brady Miller, Robert Jackson, and Lana Nix Wright; siblings, J.T. Phillips, T.C. Phillips, Looney Phillips and Elizabeth Freeman. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jack A. and Betty Putman, Toney G. and Sharon Putman, and Phillip W. and Marilyn Putman, Gwendolyn D. and Ray Walsh, Cora Lee and Gerald Roach, Beatrice Ross and special friend John Wallace, Shirley E. and Clint Mitchell; 23 surviving grandchildren as well as legions of great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Phillips and Jimmie Phillips; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Baxter Putman; all of whom relished in her love for them, love for life, and love for her Lord and Savior. She will be missed, along with the twinkle in her eye. Yet her inspiring and radiant spirit resides in all she met and especially in her off springs. Such a beautifully written tribute. It was an honor to have known Mrs. Iva Lou, one of the kindest people I've ever met. How wonderful that she is reunited with so many loved ones and her Savior where we will all be together one day. I know her family is missing her dearly, yet taking comfort in her victory.
