James Alton Shaddix

james shaddix

James was born the first of six children to John    Alton & Alice Katherine Jeardoe Shaddix on May 22, 1947. He spent his life close to home in Cass and Morris counties, where he also raised his son, John, and daughter, Melissa. John, along with his daughter, Haley, provided much comfort and light in James’ life.

James had a keen sense of knowledge for mechanic work. He worked on many family and friends’ vehicles to help them, while continuously working at various          mechanic shops in the area. James was also employed with Lone Star Steel (US Steel), where he retired with over 25 years of service. He was a member of Hughes Springs  Missionary Baptist Church since his baptism in 1961, after accepting the Lord as his Savior.

As an avid horse lover from a young age, James loved to ride them, work them, break them and help others come to love them as well. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He was quick with a joke, or prank, to keep things humorous, even when life rendered difficult times.

James has now been reunited with his parents; daughter, Melissa Shaddix; grandson, Timothy Shaddix;  and brother-in-law, Bobby McDaniel; along with other   relatives and friends.

Left to cherish his memory along with children John and Haley are his daughter, Angela Brotherton; grandsons, Jonathan Fincher and Morgan, Chance and Walker Smith; granddaughter, Shelby Shaddix; brother, David (Sue)  Shaddix; sisters, Linda McDaniel,  Carol (Lee Roy)    Bickham, Annette (Tommy) Burson and Mary (Larry)   Trevino; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts,     uncles, cousins and many treasured family friends.

Special thanks from John & Haley to James’ brother, sisters and family, along with Jennifer Pounds and Katie Smith for their special care given to daddy. You all are truly special blessings to us.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Missionary Baptist Church in Hughes Springs with Bro. Larry Neeley officiating.  Burial to follow in the Flat Creek Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Saturday evening at the funeral home.
