James Harvest Payne was born November 12, 1941 in Marshall, Texas to LZ and Willie Bell Payne and passed away March 15, 2015 at his home in Hughes Springs. He was a member of Floyd Valley Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until his health failed. James Payne attended Floyd Valley Independent School District and later retired from Lone Star Steel after 33 years of service. On March 9, 1998 James and Della were united in holy matrimony and began their life together, full of memorable experiences. To this union James brought one son and took on the father roll to Dellas three children and treated them as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents, LZ and Willie Payne; two sons, Emery Hardwick and Samuel Castle; two brothers, J. Horace Payne and Joe Edward Payne; two sisters, Ola Mae King and Duell Payne. James leaves to cherish his memories his lovely wife of 17 years, Della Payne; one daughter, Wanakee Castle (Tyron) of Hughes Springs; one son, Antwone Castle (Britnee) of Daingerfield; one daughter-in-law, Nicole Castle of New Bern, NC; four grandchildren, Samilya Castle, Sananya Davis, Samuel Castle, Thaia Davis; two sisters, Mary Heard of Atlanta, Texas and Ethel Lee Payne of Queen City, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, along with his family at Hills Grocery. Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Floyd Valley Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the funeral home.

I will miss James very much…I always looked forward to seeing James at Hill's Grocery….James never changed……he was always the same……big smile…never had a bad word about anything….one good man……RIP

My uncle is in a better place. I will forever cherish the wonderful memories I hold of him…his many jokes, the nickname he gave my daughter "Washing Powder", and the way he used to have my sister Cheryl and I recite after him and make us think we were really praying.
