Joe E. Brown

Joe Edward Brown, a long-time resident of Hughes Springs, TX, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 25th.
Joe was born April 11, 1945 in Houston and moved to Hughes Springs as a child. He graduated with the class of 1964 as captain of the Mustangs basketball team. He then served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era and returned home to begin an extensive career at Lone Star Steel. An active member of the community, Joe impacted the lives of countless people, from the hundreds of boys he coached on the little league fields, to his brothers and sisters in Christ at First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs, to his beloved friends who became family at Lone Star Steel, a place where he joyfully invested over fifty years of his life. Anyone who knew Joe knew not only that he was a tireless worker but also a strong Christian whose love of Christ guided every aspect of his life to the very end.
He is survived by three sons: Alan (Paula) Brown, Andrew Brown, all of Lake Jackson, TX, and Aaron (Amanda) Brown of Bullard, TX; their mother, Nan Alexander Walker; and six grandchildren; Connor, Reece, Sarah, Isaac, Riley, and Logan; his brother, John Brown and wife Pat of Maud, TX; and nephews Rusty and Chris Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Myrtis Brown; wife, Alice Brown; and grandson Eban Brown.
Services for Joe E. Brown, 74, of Hughes Springs, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the First Baptist Church Christian Life Center in Hughes Springs. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs: P.O. BOX 787, Hughes Springs, Texas 75656.
It was a pleasure knowing Joey over the years. He was a Christian and a true gentleman.
Im so sorry to hear the passing of my friend and classmate. Joey was one of the best. He will be missed. Prayers go out to family and friends. RIP ole buddy.
