Joe Harrell

Services for Mr. Joe Harrell, 53, of Hughes Springs, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Avinger Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Joe Howard Harrell was born July 2, 1965 in Atlanta, Texas and passed away March 12, 2019. He was raised in Avinger by his grandmother, "Mama Harrell" and graduated from Avinger High School and was a member of Pruitt Lake Baptist Church. Joe worked with the Roll Shop Crew at US Steel for over 27 years. Although he never married, he raised two boys. He loved his dogs, especially Dolly. Joe was a kind man with a heart as big as Texas. He lived and worked to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. He loved to take hunting trips in West Texas, Minnesota, and Wyoming.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Howard Gene Harrell; mother, Marlene Hood Harrell; grandmother, Mama Harrell (Leona) his; uncles, Pete and James Harrell; and aunts, Juanita Pearson, Purdy Locker, and Thelma Huff.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis Harrell; sister, Kim Parr; cousins, Larry Harrell, Elaine Kozisek, Debbie Williams, Tony and Hoyle Pearson, Maryann Johns; uncles Robert and Jackie Harrell; John and Curtis Elmore; beloved dog, Dolly; good friends, Scott Skipper and family; and numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pruitt Lake Baptist Church.

What a wonderful young cousin! Wish I had taken time to visit with him more often. It was so inspiring to see all the friends at the hospital. There was STANDING ROOM ONLY! So -So many friends. Cousin from Longview.
Joe, you left us with lots of memories, you were a solid friend! You’ll always be thought of as a tough man that was a team player. You were one of only a few that made us great at our job. You are missed!! And you were loved!!

I went to school with Joe, he was such a sweet person both then and now. Rest well my friend
Joe Howard has always been a pleasant person, I have known him all his life. I know Mama Harrell is so glad to see him and will probably have chores for him to do.

I’m Joe’s neighbor everyday I went to his house and he let me ride on the trails behind his house and I helped him work he was like a father I never had I love you joe??
Joe and I were best friends from the time we moved to Avinger in 1974 until we moved away in 1978. I lost contact but have very good memories of the time we spent together. Was trying to reconnect with him. I cried out loud when I came across his obit. May you rest in peace Brother.
