Joe Lloyd Buckland, of Avinger, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born November 16, 1935, on a quiet county farm road in Linden, Texas, to Ralph and Winna Buckland.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career with Southwestern Bell, from which he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially sitting on his back porch and looking out over the lake he loved so much.  Though Joe was born in Cass County he spent much of his career in El Paso, Austin and San Antonio.  Upon Retirement he returned to his roots and his family in Cass County where he lived until his passing

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth and Glenn Buckland; and two brothers, Billy G. Buckland and David R. Buckland.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Susan Nance; four grandchildren, Raenetta Newey, Clayton Nance, Mason Buckland, and Breanna Rawlings; and three great-grandchildren, Riley Nance, Claire Newey, and Lee Newey. He also leaves behind numerous other relatives and many friends who will remember him fondly.

Joe’s life was one marked by service, love for his family, and an appreciation for the peaceful beauty of nature. His legacy will live on through the family and friends who loved him dearly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
