Joezell Rushing, 82, of Lone Star, TX, passed away, Sunday March 20, 2016 at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Joe was born August 26, 1933 to John Rushing and Etta M. Vermer Rushing in Marion County, TX. He united with Warlock Methodist Church at an early age. He attended Warlock and Victory Schools in Marion County. He worked for Lone Star Steel and retired after 33 years of service.
Joe was well known for his carpentry and masonry skills. Many homes on Hwy 155 and 729 as well as surrounding towns have his handprint on their homes.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents John and Etta Rushing; son, Joezell David Rushing, Jr.; sisters, Ruth B. Rushing Jordan, Bertha Mae Rushing Henderson, Azlie Rushing and Geraldine Rushing Hines-Lundy.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Sara Rushing of Dallas, Texas; sons: Odis V. Rushing, Sr. (Tonnia) of Hughes Springs, TX; Arnold L. Rushing, (Bobbie) of Murphy, TX; Gerald Wiley (Octavia) of Garland, TX; daughters: Sharon Rushing Hayes of Irving, TX; Sandra M. Smith (Michael) of Dallas, TX; Terry Babers (Willie) of Dallas, TX and April Thompson (LaTret) of Irving, TX; sister: Selma O. Rushing-Moore of Oakland, CA; grandsons: Listed as Honorary Pallbearers; granddaughters: Yulonda Patterson, Tiangela Rushing, Valarie Drake, Jessica Rushing, Tacorya Francois, Tamara Wheatfall and Michelle Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services for Mr. Rushing will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Jefferson Junior High School in Jefferson, TX. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mr. Rushing will be lying in state from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

  1. So Sorry to here of Joes passing worked with him at LLS in the late 70s and then saw later in life and he always had a smile. Prayers to the family during this time .
