Funeral services for CPO John A. Dodd, 95, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February, 16, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield, with Rev. Matt Every officiating. Burial will follow at Whitmore Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, of Hughes Springs. Mr. Dodd will lie in state all day Friday and there will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Dodd was born August 14, 1917, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina snf passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was a retired Naval Officer and Pearl Harbor Survivor of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Maryland. CPO Dodd retired after 20 years in the Navy. He served under presidents Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower during both WWII and the Korean War. After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Dodd was a Senior Youth Counselor for the State of California for 18 years and served as President of the California State Employee Association Chapter 123. He took up beekeeping as a hobby, but it soon turned into more than just a hobby. After retiring from the State of California, John moved with his wife, Nolia to Daingerfield, Texas, where he continued his bee keeping. Mr. Dodd is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nolia; one biological daughter, Serena (James); three daughters Carrol, Vonda, and Pamela; one son Alfred; eleven grandchildren; special cousin, Virginia Lloyd; special nephew, Marvin Lowrance (Virginia); one special brother-in-law, James Barkwell (Valerie); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The family will greet friends after the service at First Christian Church, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Relatives and friends are invited to join them for the repass.
