Joyce Delita Sullivan-Phillips

April 12, 1949 ~ May 13, 2020
Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching us.
Joyce Delita Sullivan Phillips, 71, of Linden rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 after a long illness. Joyce was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others. She enjoyed going to garage sales, flea markets, sewing and many other crafts.
Joyce was born April 12, 1949 in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Pauline Brown Young and Lewis Arnold Sullivan, Sr; sister, Joy Levita Sullivan Smith and one brother, Louie Dewayne Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Ray Phillips of Linden, TX; daughter, Dana Erwin of Denham Springs, LA; adopted daughter, Elisa Baird of Linden, TX; brother, Lewis Arnold Sullivan, Jr. and wife Lynn of Mansfield, TX; grandchildren, Da'Nay and J'Kobie Erwin, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, friends and other family members.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday May 16, 2020 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden with Bro. Michael Roberts officiating. Private burial will take place after the services at Veal Switch Cemetery.
There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service for friends and family to come by to view and sign the registry.
As most of the OLDER Family knows, Delita (not Joyce) was more a sister to me than a cousin. Our moms were close, so we grew up together.
SUPPOSEDLY, she was Older, only way to Verify that was to check Birth certificates. She acted like a younger sister Most of the time. When you have a sister, you never truly forget the past. If you do, she was happy to remind me of all the times she could remember.
It’s easier to miss her at a cemetery, where she’s never been, than to miss her at all the places where she was alive.
Memories of you we will always keep.
But memories of you will never die.
We are sorry for your loss, you are in our prayers
Wishing we could be there with family and friends during this time, but doctor advised against at this time. May the peace that passes all understanding be with Dana, her children, Lewis, his children, Jim and all who loved her.
We are sorry for your loss you and you family are in our prayers.

I am the oldest granddaughter of James Weldon Sullivan. Janiece Caskey is my mother. I'm sorry for your loss.
