Karita LaShaye Morton was born August 2, 1969 to Thelma Morton and the late James Brown in Pittsburg, Texas and passed from this earth on October 1, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her infant brother, James Brown, Jr. Karita attended Pittsburg and Jefferson public schools. She worked as a crossing guard for Ore City School District for several years. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Church and later joined Murry League Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Cameron Jones (Demarius), April Jones, Marcellius Morton and Christopher Jones; seven grandchildren, Jayden, Xavien, Ariyah, Ahliyah, Jacques Jr., DeMarion, and DaCarri; her loving mother, Thelma Morton; ten sisters, Patricia Rose (Junior), Betty Morton, Sharon Hensley, Teresa Morton (Andrew), Tiffany Morton (Earl), YKevia Smith (Dustin), Martha Arthur (Mike), Dianna Mosley (Leon), Gloria Randle (Charles), Joyce Brown, and Carolyn Brown; five brothers, Damain Morton, Victor Hall, Mark Brown, Tiger Brown, and Kenneth Reynolds; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and friends. A special thanks to Freddie Simmon and Jannie Johnson, who she so enjoyed talking to. Services for Ms. Morton will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 10, 2015 at Murry League Baptist Church in Ore City. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

  1. I am so sorry to hear of Karitas passing. Karita was always a caring spirit, happy, smiling, that I had the privilege to know. I was her Avon lady and enjoyed her tremendously. She is no longer in pain and in an awesome place and we will see her again soon. She will be greatly missed. Many prayers to her family!! God bless you all.

  2. I had the honor and privilege to meet Karita in 2000 playing on the ladies softball team NO LIMIT!! I know her and my brother RIP"TUTU" are sitting in Heaven right now …..My deepest condolences to her children and family.
