Lanis Rieger

Lanis Nelson Rieger, 72, of Linden, Texas, passed away at his home on November 12, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.  Born June 8, 1953, in Hereford, Texas, to Nelson and Charline Riege.

Lanis grew up with a deep appreciation for nature and a strong sense of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, spending part of his service time in Korea. Following his military service, he pursued a lifelong career as a forestry technician. In his later years, he continued that work under contract with the Department of the Army, where he applied his knowledge and dedication to caring for and managing forest lands. Lanis loved being outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the beauty of the woods.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Charline Rieger.  Lanis is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann Rieger; his son, Jason Skelton, and wife Celeste; two grandchildren, Catherine Skelton and Jason B. Skelton; his brother, Lyndon Rieger, and wife Sharon; his sister, M’Lette Ross; brothers-in-law, Billy Redfearn and James Redfearn and wife Kathy; sister-in-law, Jeanie Redfearn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family will celebrate Lanis’s life with a memorial service at a later date.  Cremation arrangements entrusted to Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
