Lester Wayne Kerr

Born October 3, 1938, he lived his entire life in the Turkey Creek Community of Avinger, Texas. He was the longest standing lifetime member of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church. His passion in life was farming and ranching. He went to his eternal rest on October 1, 2013 at Titus Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. After graduating high school in Hughes Springs, he served 2 years in the U.S. Army ranked as Buck Sergeant, stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia where he met his future bride, Shirley Ann Fowler of Columbus, Georgia. Lester retired from SWEPCO after 30+ years of service at the Wilkes Power Plant. Lester is survived by his loving & devoted wife of 53 years Shirley of Avinger; Son & daughter-in-law Michael & Teresa Kerr of San Antonio; Granddaughter & husband, Amber & Jason Swedoski of Houston; Grandson & wife, Wayne & Kristen Kerr of Hughes Springs. Six great grandchildren: Autumn, Austin, Jordan & Summer Swedoski of Houston and Cambree & Jackson Kerr of Hughes Springs. Sister & husband: Carolyn & Don Anderson of Longview. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Lester is preceded in death by his parents Lester & Edna Mae (Wallace) Kerr; brother Charles Robert Kerr and sister Barbara Ann (Kerr) Bryant. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Special scripture verse: Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I worked with Lester for several years at Wilkes, he was a great guy to work with. I'm sorry to learn of your loss. I know lester is with the Lord today.
We are so sorry to hear of Lester's passing..But if anyone was prepared we know he was..we have a soft spot for those two in our hearts and know he will be missed greatly…now he is singing those specials in Heaven…hugs and prayers to the family.
This is such a nice memorial for Mr. Kerr. I wish I could have known your family longer. I am the nurse who helped you when you got admitted and then checked on you in ICU. I can tell you are a very wonderful Christian family and as you said last night after he passed away, you know he is with Jesus.
