Margaret Ann Grant, 77, of Daingerfield, passed away Wednesday February 12, 2020 with her family by her side.
She was born, by midwife, to the late Henry Lee and Frankie Peters on, January 18, 1943 in Morris County. Margaret completed her high school education in Roswell, New Mexico after marrying the love of her life, the late Wilson “Guy” Grant, on January 27, 1959. Together they lived in Clovis, New Mexico for 20 years until they returned to Daingerfield in the 1980’s.
Margaret is survived by four brothers: Don Smith, Henry S. Peters, Bobby Wayne (Maudie) Peters, and Benny Charles Peters. She is also survived by four amazing children: Darrell (Rose) Grant, of DeSoto; Yvonne (Jarvis) Warren, of Duncanville; Teresa Grant, of DeSoto; and Sandra Brown, of Duncanville; six wonderful grandchildren, Crystal Wells, Ashley Paul, Tiffany Paul, Garrett Hughes, Taylor Grant-Gates and Kimberly Clarke; & four lovely great-grandchildren, Evan Wells, Jalen Quarles, Erin Wells, and Logan Green; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2017 and her great granddaughter, Kaylee Dawn Risby in 2012.
Margaret, Suckie as she was affectionately known, was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister but also a ground breaker. While living in Clovis, New Mexico, she began her career at Woolworth where she became the first woman of color to be employed by that store. She also worked her way up from entry level to a management position at Gibson’s during a time where segregation was prevalent. After the family returned to Daingerfield she began a career with the Cason/Daingerfield school system where she was a bus driver for elementary through high school students. When her grandchildren would come to visit, they loved waking up to a breakfast of sugar toast and rice, followed by completing the bus route with their grandmother. On the route they would try to be well behaved so they could stop by the corner store for chocolate milk and a candy treat before going home. She valued hard work and education and instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of both. Through her experiences, she was able to educate them on diversity as well as how to create a lane for yourself when one is not given. Margaret knew the value in staying in touch. Because of this, she talked to each of her children almost daily and always made sure she was the first phone call to her immediate family on their birthdays. The passing of our Matriarch leaves an unfillable void, but brings each of us closer as we hold each other up.

I loved Margaret and enjoyed our long talks over the past twenty years she will be missed by all who knew her. God Bless.
Mrs. Grant was a lovely lady and it was such a shock to hear of her passing. She drove the bus for our PEP students at the high school. To the family, I'm praying for your peace and comfort that only God can give at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Gloria Harris Martin
