Earl Marvin Zimmerman, 62, of Linden, Texas, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at his home in Linden. Mr. Zimmerman was born November 12, 1944, in Atlanta, Texas, and was reared in El Dorado, Arkansas. He received a BSE and MSE with academic honors from Arkansas State University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and completed post-graduate work at the University of Arkansas. He was a retired educator from the Little Rock Arkansas School District where he held the positions of high school English teacher and department chairman, Supervisor of English, and Director of Staff Development. He was a former president of the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English, a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Teachers of English, a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and Phi Delta Kappa national educational fraternity, and was named to Who’s Who in the South and Southwest. He was a member of Linden United Methodist Church where he served as editor of the church’s newsletter. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Laura Fay and William Hammond Zimmerman, Sr. Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, William H. “Bill” and Pat Zimmerman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one niece and nephew-in-law, Becky and Steve Harrison of Paradis, Louisiana; one nephew and niece-in-law, David and Karen Zimmerman of Brooksville, Florida; two great nephews, Justin and Tyler Zimmerman of Brooksville, Florida; one aunt, Vallie Shaddix of Mesquite, Texas; and several cousins. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, December 8, 2006, at Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Linden United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark McClanahan officiating. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetary, under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home.
