Mary Simmons

Mary Elma Smith Simmons, 81, of Linden, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 in a local hospital. Mary was born in the Concord community near Hughes Springs on June 27, 1931. She was the daughter of Sanford and Valera Smith. She was a Baptist by faith. Mary was the owner of Marys Resale and laundry in Linden for several years during the 80s. She is survived by six of her seven children, Sue Johnson and husband, Jimmy; Joe Simmons; Wayne Simmons and wife, Paula; Sally Ivey and husband, Jerry; Charles Simmons and wife, Kathy, Sarah Murr and husband, Carl; four brothers, Shorty, Alford, Harold and Edward Smith; three sisters, Mickey Fears, Toppy Vandiver, and Carol Barnes; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.W. Simmons, a son, Dennis Simmons and grandson, Cal. Mary was a kind and gentle person, a friend to many. She will be missed by those her loved her. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the chapel of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden. Interment will be in Linden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
