Mary Womack

November 4, 1944 ~ January 12, 2023

Mary Beth Womack, 78, passed away on January 12 from cancer complications in Plano, TX.  She was born on November 4, 1944 in Douglassville, TX to Morris W. and Mertie Cox Lee.  Mary graduated high school from Red Hill, TX, and she was always a lover of the outdoors.  She was a dedicated and loving woman who found joy in taking care of her home and family.  Mary was always a happy and joyful woman who brought love and warmth to her home.   She was a steady hand in all of the ups and downs of family life.

Mary was married to Jerry Bob Womack on March 14, 1964.  During their 47 years of marriage, they shared many dreams together.  Given that Jerry too was an avid outdoorsman, the two of them shared many outdoor adventures together through the years.  When Bobby and Gina were born, they too were inducted into the Womack love of the outdoors.  It was always a guarantee that Mary’s yard would have more trees, shrubs, and flowers than anyone else in the neighborhood!  Thus, the family spent many years working in the yard, on the water fishing, and in the woods hunting and camping.  There were many a day and night when the family enjoyed a fishing or hunting trip together from which many fond memories were generated.  Once Bobby and Gina were grown and started their own families, Mary continued by the side of her husband and swapped Thanksgiving turkey for steaks at deer camp!

Over the course of her life, Mary held a number of manufacturing and assembly jobs.  She also played the piano for a number of years at the Redbone United Methodist Church in Vicksburg, MS.  Upon moving from Vicksburg, MS to Greenville, MS in 1981, Mary worked with Jerry to build their dream home where she continued to plant new trees, shrubs, flowers, and a grand vegetable garden.  We always said she was the “green thumb” of the family.  This loving home is where Mary ultimately retired.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father Morris and Mertie Lee, her husband Jerry, and her two brothers Morris W. (Jack) Lee and Loyce C. Lee.

Mary is survived by her and Jerry’s two children as well as three grandchildren:  her son Jerry B. (Bobby) Womack Jr. and daughter-in-law Tammy Womack; her daughter Gina L. Hawkins and son-in-law Gary Hawkins; and three grandchildren Katey, Max, and Grace Hawkins.  Mary is also survived by her sister Ann Butts.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Reeder-Davis Chapel.  Burial will follow at Cornett Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be  a time of visitation one hour prior to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
