Maxine Goodson

Services for Maxine Goodson, 100, formerly of Hughes Springs will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Maxine Goodson, daughter of Jones Samuel and Cleo Pratt Nelson, took her last breath in her residence in Seminole, Oklahoma, in the early morning hours of January 3, 2019, at the age of 100 years, 7 months. She entered into the presence of her precious Lord Jesus and was welcomed by those she had so longed to see. 

She is survived by one daughter, Bettye, and husband, Russell Vicars, of Seminole, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Connie Goodson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and spouses, Scott Vicars and wife Sonia, Janna and husband Dan Allen, Stephen Goodson and wife Sherra, Philip Goodson and wife Katie, Amy and husband Darren Wittenberg, and Janessa and husband John Groce; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; one brother, Glenn Nelson of Hughes Springs, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, P W Goodson, her cherished son, Perry Max Goodson, an infant grandson, Christopher Vicars, her brother, Jones Pratt Nelson and her parents, Jones and Cleo Nelson. 

Maxine and PW lived in Dallas after they married until PW retired and they moved “back home” to Hughes Springs. Maxine moved to Oklahoma after PW’s death to live with her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs, from which she received weekly CDs, even after she moved away, to keep “up to date.”

She regularly donated to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and would love for donations to be made to them in lieu of flowers.
