Funeral services for Mr. Michael Nix, age 65, of Hughes Springs, will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Tommy Estes, Bro. Chris Cates and Bro. Larry Neeley officiating.  Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.  There will be a time of visitation with the family from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Nix passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.

Michael Ray Nix was born January 16, 1959, in Hughes Springs, Texas, to Homer Ray and Mary Beth Waldon Nix. Mike was a member of Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church and the Hughes Springs Masonic Lodge.  He was employed by AEP Swepco for over 35 years. Mike served on the Hughes Springs School Board for six years. He served as “the voice of the Hughes Springs Mustangs” on Friday nights and was a mentor to many generations of youth, serving as a coach for the Hughes Springs Youth Baseball Association for many years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Beth Nix.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Brenda Sue Caperton Nix; his son, Robbie Nix and wife Maegan; his daughter, Melissa Nix; father, Homer Ray Nix and wife Mary; grandchildren whom he adored and who affectionately called him “Pappy”:  Cooper, Lundy, Ella, Cole, and Jackson; sister, Leisa Harrison and her husband Danny; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Christus Medical Center in Longview and the liver team and ICU unit at Methodist Hospital in Dallas for their care and compassion towards Mike in the days preceding his death.
